Disturbance in the Fire Cavern!

The Fire Cavern was usually a rather dangerous place to go into, only the most experiences students were allowed inside and it was usually warded by Balamb Garden guards, in order to prevent any accidents within, the monsters there are not overly strong or aggressive, however there’s always the chance that something might go wrong and the student would get hurt, there has never been a fatality and, the GF guarding the cave has never really been engaged.
For Squall, the mission posted by Cid about the abnormalities in the Fire Cavern was rather odd, he never thought those monsters would be bothersome enough to guarantee a SeeD member going into the cavern to investigate the issue, which was exactly what made Squall interested on it in the first place. Taking his gunblade, he left the Garden by noon, the walk towards the cavern would take him at least a few hours if he did not take any transport, and to be honest, that would be better for him, no one to bother him with small talk or questioning him about the motives of his trip to this cavern, simple peace and quiet until the storm at the place came on.

By the afternoon, the young SeeD had made his way to the entrance of the cavern, as expected, the Garden’s security was standing at the entrance, the difference was that this time they looked rather exhausted, damaged, their clothes were burned in spots and their bodies panted in exhaustion, as Squall approached, they seemed rather relieved, as much as you could see below those attires they wore.

“Thank god they sent help! These monsters have for some reason become much more aggressive, even threatening to leave the cavern!” One of the security guys said while fixing his hat, Squall simply glanced at him and twirled his gunblade, getting it ready to strike at any moment when something suspicious appeared from the entrance to the cave, however, nothing really happened.

“Any idea why this is happening?” Squall asked, just as if he was on a normal mission, the security guards simply shook their head, having absolutely no idea what was causing these monsters to react more aggressive than normal. Squall shook his head and moved forward, ignoring the guards and entering the Fire Cavern, a place he hadn’t been since his first days as a SeeD student, oh those memories when nothing was actually terribly wrong.

Upon entering the cave, Squall saw what was really happening within, one of those bomb monsters quickly launched itself at him, the Bomb hit the wall behind him and immediately went on the offensive attack once more, Squall was ready for it though and slashed right through it, at this point, enemies like that where nothing else but live piñatas for the young SeeD, the two parts of the bomb fell on the ground and immediately exploded behind Squall, he turned around to look at the rest of the cave, he was ready to start his investigation of the place.

The heat inside the rather old cavern had just turned a bit higher, Squall’s forehead started to sweat as his body felt the exhaustion of the lack of cool air entering his body, but he was more than ready for these sort of situations, his SeeD training had not been for nothing. He walked on, the rock beneath his feet feeling just as hot as the lava that ran below it, spurs of fire raised from the rivers of magma that ran within the cave, the lair of monsters that thought this was the best weather in the world. For some reason though, these monsters had become aggressive, and already had started their attacks, the Bomb had been his first enemy, but it had not presented a challenge at all.

“Up until now...there’s nothing weird with this cave at all” Squall said to himself, his gunblade held tight in his hand as suddenly, he heard it. The undeniable screech of a Buel coming his way, only it was not just one, it sounded like at least half a dozen of them where moving his way, a more than a nuisance for the rather strong SeeD.
“These is weird...they do not usually travel like that” Squall said as he readied his gunblade, the Buel’s came rather fast from far ahead in the rocky road, Squall was ready to strike when he felt it, a burning sensation in the back of his head, pain running down his spine and back and then his face hitting the hot surface of the Fire Cavern, he rolled quickly to avoid any prolonged burns on his face and got back up on his feet. On the other side from the Buel’s a group of Bombs were standing, which where the things that had burned his neck.

“That was a cheap shot, you get one of those for free” Squall said, a bit angered at the bombs who had burned them, his hand made a rather fancy twirl of his gunblade, ending with it pointing at the bombs, while the Buel’s behind him started to charge what would certainly be some kind of magic attack against him. He did not care, for now he had to get rid of those things, the longer he took, the closer they got to blowing up and that was a bit more dangerous than whatever the Buel’s where preparing.
Squall rushed towards the group of Bombs, he counted them as he approached “One...two...three...four” the bombs had started their movements towards Squall, trying to hit him as he moved through them, he avoided most of them but the fire from their bodies was still able to burn spots of his flesh, they wouldn’t last though, as Squall’s blade had started to glow he spun around with his sword shooting a barrage of bullets towards the Bombs, one after the other, the bullets hit the bombs as the speed of his spin created a mini hurricane inside the cavern, the bombs got trapped in it and spun out of control, slamming against the edge of his sharp blade over and over again, some of the fire around the cavern got caught on it as well and soon enough the bombs exploded, sending Squall flying slightly backwards, but mostly undamaged as his enemies had disappeared.

“That wasn’t so ha-“He was interrupted by the sound of thunder and, immediately after, pain rushed through his body as a lighting strike shook his foundation, thankfully, his loyal sword had absorbed most of the damage, providing a less damaging strike, the first strike was followed by another five, which were all absorbed by his sword, a sword that had been with him since the previous Gaia.

“Oh...you are not a powerful strong enemy for me now” Squall said as he rushed towards the Buel’s as well, his energy was all but spent after the ravaging hurricane he had created within the confines of the cavern, he had some strength left and well, these enemies where really not that strong for him, at most, they would take him a minute or two to dispose of them. He leaped toward the first of the Buel’s, gunblade first and with a swift stroke of his wrist, the flaps of the monster came off, and then half of it fell to the ground, sliding onto the magma river next to them and bursting into flames.

The second one was a bit more painful, as the other five Buel’s started preparing another attack, Squall had already begun his, the gunblade came from below, impaling the Buel onto the tip of the gunblade and firing a round or two into it, blood sputtered around the burning floor and rocks from the roof started falling from the bullets hit that pierced through the top of the monster’s body, as the second Buel fell, the rest once more tried their hand at a thunder attack, it seemed like these monsters did not understand the concept of defense on Squall, the lighting struck him once more, through the blade and the paint was minimal, nothing more than a small shock on his body. However, these attacks, had built up, and he was now prepared to something he had not used since Seifer, an attack so powerful that he himself was worried about using it.

He flipped his gunblade, the blade scrapping the ground beneath him and rushed towards the remaining group of Buel’s, the contact between his blade and the ground, the friction created sparks of fire and soon enough his own blade had caught on fire, he drove upwards as he leaped up, the sword slashing through the remaining Buel’s and bringing with him a wave of fire from the ground, burning them to a crisp before landing on the other side of the corpses, which quick enough faded into ashes.
“Now...let’s see what is going on in here...” he walked towards the end of the Fire Cavern where he found a rather strange, altar made out of rocks, on top of it a red jewel was burning within a case filled up with magma, a bright red light emanating from it, it looked to Squall that this was the cause of the enraged monsters. He walked towards it and tried to touch it, bad idea as the magma inside seemed to be burning incredibly hot, somewhat not melting the case or the jewel inside.

“Screw this...” Squall said as he mustered his remaining strength, with a powerful, swift, and quick stroke of his blade, he shattered the case in a thousand pieces, the jewel broke as well and it appeared the enraged monsters calmed down, though, the question remained, who had put it there and, more importantly, what was the purpose of making these monsters as aggressive as they were.
