The streets were packed again as always with the busy working man, buzzing around the hypothetical hive working to make their living. Receiving so little for themselves as they worked their contributions to hive, where no one cared if you were stepped on or not, there was a replacement waiting for you as soon as you croaked or gave in. With a world like that, who wouldn't want to know their future? Or how best to handle their situation? Or perhaps it was just a fantasy or diversion from their normal droll everyday mundane lives.

Regardless of their purpose...he was there.

His golden eyes pierced the nervous man's large mundane brown ones, piercing his soul deeply as if he was staring right into the eyes of a dragon. Of course, he had always had this look, always intense and focused, because it took a lot to divine the fate of someone. Most would say that divining was a hoax and random guessing based on clues and context. For Mark, it was channeling energy through his cards and focusing onto the life stream of the Planet. Through this Mark was able to see other's paths and events, making him a prophet of sorts, and a damn good one at that. His reputation had preceded him, as the man's eyes widened as Mark set his hand on the deck of cards. There was something off about his eyes...they were very glassy and reflective...as if...

The first card he picked was Death, the 13th card of the Arcana. Mark looked at it inquisitively, and the man before him became pale. Though Mark would normally tell him that this did not necessarily mean the end of his life, he said nothing, perplexed by the card he had picked up. He looked up again to see his own reflection in the man's dark eyes.

Death...the end of the cycle...loss...goodbyes...

Flashbacks of flames and destruction flashed in his eyes and it was as everything was torn asunder. Everything was lost, and in that moment Mark felt a deep void in his soul at the moment. There was something else within this card though...Death was not an end but merely a transition- a transformation into something new...if that happened...then whee was he? Midgar? No...not the same one...that one was destroyed...if this was Midgar...this was a different Midgar...on a different Gaia in a parallel universe...

He quickly picked up another glowing card, this time the 11th card, Justice. The crowned angel stared up at him with indifference, a golden sword raised to the sky. This indicated one of two things, and most likely, the reason why he was still living during the destruction. Due to the events, he must had been cast away through the dimensions into this version of Gaia. Now the state of this Gaia was still unknown, but it was completely possible this was what this card meant. Justice usually was a repeat offender when it came to Fate. Depending on the path one took, Justice would be done one way or another...

Ignoring the man in front of him now, who at this point could be having a panic attack due to Mark not speaking and through the cards being picked up. He then picked up The Wheel of Fortune, a card that symbolized cycles. Indicating that the same cycle of events were bound to happen. Mark's eyes widened, as he stared at the card, once again it would seem that he would be called on again to help the world for it would soon go down the same road of destruction. Then the last card he would draw...was card 0, The Fool, an indication that this was the beginning and it was time for new beginnings and new experiences and a new chapter. In that moment he came back to that first day when he met them...

Mark quickly shuffled his cards back into the deck and quickly left without so much as a word to the man. He needed time to think and the man who had fainted on the ground was the least of his problems. What he needed right now... was a drink. And so without further thought he began to make his way to the nearest bar, hopefully to clear his head and sort all of this out.

Darkness and fire, a voice speaking words that he couldn't quite comprehend, these were his dreams.

Before he had met her the man who had no name didn't dream, at night the darkness merely engulfed him, blanketed him in the void till the morning came. But now there were dreams, dreams of a hungry inferno seeking to consume the world, pain...anguish and destruction. Still that was not to say that the restless nights did not come without their benefits, the girl if nothing else was useful in his missions. No Name knew his way around a sword and his inability to die was a boon, but that did not mean he could not fail a mission. Her aid wherever she had came from was useful.

Today he had checked his wallet only to find that money was running low, his life as that of the local freelancer. A mercenary for hire who would do any job, extermination...hell even delivering packages was not above him. Most places had things that monitored these sorts of activities, guilds or organisations like SEED which provided a steady stream of work. The only thing that ket him form signing up with these people though was the idea of constriction, his ability, his curse wasn't something that one just saw everyday...and if he ended up on someones radar...well that would be bad for him and for this girl.

The morning papers provided little comfort and the girl was asleep, thus he would need to make his way into the streets towards the local job board to find out just what needed done in Midgar today. On his way out though there was something that caught his eye in particular, a young man in the steet giving out what appeared to be fortunes, he had never believed in that kind of thing...though for some odd reason he couldn't take his eyes off those who circled around him to get a reading.

As he walked away from the circle of people around him towards the nearest bar, something stopped him. A simple phrase, ridiculous as it may sound it was a common phrase of the amateur magician or street performer...its tone sarcastic and condescending. Somehow familiar but somehow so distant. Mark quickly turned his head in the direction of the single phrase that had brought him out of his daze, almost the magical words to waking him up...and his eyes fell on the man who had said them.

His golden eyes met his eyes and although it was abnormal for Mark to lose his composure, it had sent a shock right through him to see those eyes again. It was like he had seen a ghost and the very presence of the man had paralyzed him in that spot. The horrible images flashed through his head, the flames, the darkness, and in that moment he felt intense feelings he couldn't quite explain. The face was familiar, but corrupted by the horrible images. Then suddenly they stopped and it was as if everything in the world went silent, alone a single phrase echoed in his head.

...Make things right...

It was then as if he had come back into the real world, his hand instinctively gripped his forehead, as it was throbbing with pain. It would've seemed that instead of reading that man's fortune...he had read his own...The Fool was already starting to guide his steps on this journey it seemed. He looked down at his hand then, the cards still in his palm...the card facing him...the Hanged Man. Mark's eyes slowly raised up to meet the man's and at that moment a smirk played across Mark's lips.

"Just as cynical as ever eh?"

No Name was getting the oddest sense of deja vou when the man looked up at him and spoke those words. There was also a portion of a terrible headache, the man had called him cynical...and well that was the case, though the sentence carried with it an air of familiarity between them. But for the life of him No Name couldn't remember...that in truth though didn't come as much of a surprise...it was quite possible that the man had known him prior to one of his....episodes.

Eternal life for some was a great boon, but for him it came with its own set of problems. every time he died he'd forget something. Usually it was an unimportant detail or two...but sometimes it was the big things...like his true name for example had too at one point been swallowed by the oblivion that was his cycle. He would push through and approach the guy at the table, pushing one of the so called customers out of the way before looking down, staring the guy right in the eye. Yeah, it was there....he'd seen that look before. When you lived with forgetting about people, you learned to realize the look that they had when they knew you.

"....So...you know me then?...."

The words Mark spoke seemed to rattle him a little bit. Honestly, though Mark hid it quite well, he was a rattled as well, knowing the man's true form...but why didn't he remember? Mark pondered this for a moment while he addressed his question.

"I know you quite well actually. Curiously so, we're right back where we met the longest time ago..."

Trying to keep things hidden so not to alarm John he decided to keep some details unknown. He was unsure of his current disposition but it appeared he remember much of anything. It was like his memory was wiped clean of their time together. Could it be that he had perished and lost his memory? Furthermore...where was she?

Deciding to change the subject to get away from the curious bystanders he quickly remembered John's previous occupation. Why else would he be at the job board?

"Low on cash? Let's fix that. Just like old times."
